Panitia Besar Pekan Olahraga Nasional (PB PON) XX Papua 2020 bakal kembali mengangkat lagu-lagu lama etnik khas tanah Papua yang pernah dinyanyikan tiga grup band kesayangan di Tanah Papua ini pembukaan, penutupan serta rangkaian pertandingan dalam iven empat tahunan tersebut.
Alasan ditonjolkannya lagu tempo dulu etnik Papua, karena sebagian besar musik khas Bumi Cenderawasih tersebut, sudah mulai hilang dan tak lagi dinyanyikan.
“Padahal itu karya seni dari grup musik anak Papua. Sehingga nanti selain di opening dan closing ceremony PON, nanti kita putar pada setiap venue. Intinya karya seni dari grup band legenda Papua ini, harus kita disemarahkan pada pelaksanaan PON,” kata Ketua Harian PB PON Papua, Yunus Wonda, Rabu (12/8/2020).
Selain itu, sambung dia, selain mengangkat lagu tempo dulu khas Bumi Cenderawasih, PB PON Papua juga bakal melibatkan penyanyi maupun seniman orang asli Papua (OAP) pada upacara opening ceremony PON XX Papua 2021.
“Untuk hal ini saya sudah mintakan kepada bidang upacara maupun konsultannya, sehingga seluruh pagelaran PON nantinya bernuansakan Papua. Artinya baik karya tetapi juga nanti yang membawakan adalah orang Papua,” kata dia.
Tidak hanya budaya Papua, tambah dia, dalam pelaksanaan PON akan menampulkan pariwisata khas Bumi Cenderawasih. 
“Pada prinsipnya kita lebih menonjolkan kearifan lokal Papua. Kita ingin tunjukan bahwa Papua adalah Indonesia dan PON Papua ini iven kebersamaan bagi anak bangsa.” 
Diketahui, pelaksanaan PON XX digelar pada 2-13 Oktober 2021. Perhelatan itu digelar di Kota Jayapura, Kabupaten Jayapura, Kabupaten Mimika, dan Kabupaten Merauke.(Red, (humas.nabirekab.go.id/ https://www.papua.go.id/)
