Hiu Paus yang ditemukan warga di Pantai Sembor, Kelurahan Kalibobo, Distrik Nabire, Senin (19/02/2024). – Bumiofinavandu/Dok Jefsi Sanjang.

Nabire, Bumiofinavandu –   Warga di sekitar Pantai Sembor, Kelurahan Kalibobo, Nabire – Papua Tengah, menemukan seekor Hiu Paus yang mati dan terdampar di wilayah itu. Hiu pemakan plankton yang naas ini ditemukan sekitar pukul 09.15 WIT di bibir pantai, Senin (19/02/2024) pagi.

“Pagi saya ke pantai untuk mengurus perahu speed. Lalu di pinggir pantai, saya melihat ada hiu paus yang sudah terdampar. Setelah saya periksa ternyata sudah mati,” kauh Jefri Sanjang, warga setempat yang menemukan pertama kali (19/02/2024).

Sanjang kemudian memberitahukan kepada warga sekitar dan melaporkan kepada instansi terkait. Selanjutnya, keluarga sembor memberikan tempat untuk digali dan mengobor hiu paus tersebut.

“Saya kasih tau orang-orang, lalu kami lapor ke instansi terkait. Sambil kami cari tali untuk ikat dan tarik ke darat. Jadi dibantu excavator, kami gali tempat yang diberikan keluarga Sembor untuk mengubur hiu paus naas itu,” terangnya.

Dia berpesan kepada warga di wilayah Nabire agar melestarikan ikan hiu paus agar hidup lama di kawasan Teluk Cenderawasih. Tidak membuang racun dan pengeboman ikan.

“Hiu paus ini adalah ikon kota di Provinsi Papua Tengah, mari kita jaga agar tetap lestari hingga anak cucu bisa menikmati keindahannya,” pesan Sanjang.

Pengendali Ekosistem Hutan (PEH) Balai Besar Taman Nasional Teluk Cenderawasih (BB TNTC), Sumaryono menjelaskan, hiu paus tersebut terdaftar dalam database TNTC.

Hiu naas ini berjenis kelamin jantan dan memiliki panjang 5,30 m dengan diameter 150 cm.

“Dari hasil identifikasi, tubuh hiu paus  ikan ditemukan tiga benda dalam tubuhnya yakni satu buah plastik es batu, teripang dan jaring pukat yang berada di rongga mulut paus. Bisa disimpulkan bahwa benda-benda ini yang ditelan paus,” jelas Sumaryono.[*]
