Nabire, Bumiofinavandu –   Kugapa adalah nama asli Kampung Bibida, Distrik Bibida Kabupaten Paniai, Provinsi Papua Tengah. Suku Mee menyebut Kugapa dengan sebutan Kugowapa.

Pastor Herman Tillemans, MSc pernah singgah dan bermalam di kampung ini,  sebelum menuju ke Iyaitaka kini pusat Paroki Santo Yosep Enagotadi untuk mengadakan misa pertama di Paniai, pada tahun 1938. Yang sekarang umat katolik mengakuinya sebagai hari masuknya Gereja Katolik.

Sampai hari ini orang-orang tua di Kugapa masih ingat baik dimana bekas rumah Pater Misael Kamarer — orang Mee menyebutnya Pagopugaida.

Tahun 1942 Gereja membuka sekolah Sekolah YPPK Enagotadi di Kampung Kugapa dengan guru pertama adalah Ignatius Meterai. Sekolah ini telah melahirkan banyak orang hebat pada masanya.

Pada tahun 1949, Pater Tillemans membawa dua Pastor OFM yaitu Pater Kamarer dan Pater Bruinsma.

Setahun kemudian, yakni di awal tahun 1950-an, Pater Misael Kamarer  melakukan perjalanan dari Pagopugaida, Kugapa (sekarang Distrik Bibida, Kabupaten Paniai), bersama beberapa pemuda dari Kugapa menuju Ilaga dan lembah Kemandoga dan Dugindoga (kini Kabupaten Intan Jaya). Tujuannya untuk missi penyebaran gereja Katolik di Pegunungan Tengah Papua bagian barat (West Central Berglaand).

Namun, dalam perjalanan pulang, dari Ilaga menuju Paniai, diduga karena kehilangan arah jalan, Pater Misael hilang kabar selama satu bulan dan pimpinan Gereja Katolik dan Pemerintah Belanda, menduga Pastor ini telah meninggal. Namun kemudian pastor ini tiba di Kampung Zoanggama, Kabupaten Intan Jaya denagn dan diterima oleh masyarakat setempat.

Dari tempat ini di kugapa juga Gereja Katolik disebarkan akan ke Wilayah Amungsa oleh Pater Kamarer, Moses Kilangin dan Menonal Beanal.

Peristiwa hilangnya Pater Kamarer diatas, kemudian mendorong Gereja Katolik untuk berusaha menghadirkan sebuah sarana transportasi, yang dapat menunjang pelayanan gereja Katolik di Papua.

Akhirnya, hadir sebuah perusahaan penerbangan yang kemudian dikenal dengan nama AMA (Associated Mission Aviation) dan pesawat terbangnya. Perusahaan penerbangan bersubsidi dari Belanda.

Inilah cikal bakal munculnya lapangan terbang terbang yang masih ada di berbagai kampung hingga saat ini. Lapangan-lapangan itu sekarang masih berfungsi, walau sebagian sudah tidak berfungsi lagi.

Kala itu, masyarakat dijangkau baik melalui pesawat air maupun pesawat udara. Sehingga  program-program dapat menjangkau masyarakat yang ada di kampung – kampung yang jauh dari pusat pemerintahan.

Mgr. Herman Tillemans, M.S.C.

Mengenal Pastor Herman Tillemans _ (31 Juli 1902 – 23 Agustus 1975)

Dari pelayanan dan karya-karyanya di wilayah Paniai, Pastor Herman Tillemans M.S.C kemudian diangkat menjadi Uskup Agung Merauke dengan gelar Monsinyur atau Mgr sebagai Uskup pertama di wilayah tersebut.

Mgr. Tillemans ditunjuk sebagai Vikaris Apostolik Merauke dengan gelar Uskup Tituler Berissa pada 25 Juni 1950. Penunjukan ini terkait pendirian Vikariat Apostolik Merauke sebagai pemekaran dari Vikariat Apostolik Amboina satu hari sebelumnya.

Pada 5 November 1950 di Merauke, ia ditahbiskan menjadi uskup oleh Nicolas Verhoeven, M.S.C. yang merupakan Vikaris Apostolik Manado bergelar Uskup Tituler Hermonthis. Mgr. Verhoeven dibantu oleh Pastor Oscar Cremers, O.F.M. yang merupakan Prefek Apostolik Hollandia.

Pastor Herman Tillemans, M.S.C. menjabat sejak ditunjuk sebagai Vikaris Apostolik Merauke pada 25 Juni 1950 hingga mengundurkan diri pada 26 Juni 1972.

Dia lahir dengan nama lengkap, Herman Henry Anthon Maria Tillemans pada 31 Juli 1902, di Belanda Grave, Brabant Utara, Belanda dan wafat pada 23 Agustus 1975 saat berumur 73 tahun di Merauke.

Di usia 13 tahun, Ia masuk sebagai anggota MSC tepatnya pada tahun 1915, di Novisiat Rooi Harten di Tilburg, kemudian pindah ke rumah misi di Breda. Dan ditahbiskan menjadi imam M.S.C. pada tanggal 19 Agustus 1928.

Pada 1929, ia ditugaskan untuk Katolik ke Guinea Baru (Irian Jaya atau sekarang Papua). Pater Tillemans pertama kali menginjakkan kakinya di Wissel Merren (kini Paniai), sebelum Pdt. Walter Post dan Pdt. Russel Dabler dari misi The Christian Missionary Alliance (CMA) yang diutus Pdt. Robert Alexander Jaffray pada akhir tahun 1937.

Tanggal 27 Desember 1929, Ia meneruskan misi di Pantai Selatan dan memperluas wilayah pelayanan gereja sampai ke daerah-daerah pegunungan di sepanjang Paniai. Tanggal 15 Juni 1930, Pastor Herman membuka stasi kedua di daerah Mimika, yaitu Uta. Sejak 1932, ia pindah dari Uta ke Kokonao untuk menggantikan Pastor Kowasky yang kerap sakit.

Pada tahun 1935, ia membawa seorang dokter pemerintah yang kemudian dipusatkan di Enarotali, yakni Dr. J. V. Debruijn. Dia juga sebagai penerjemah (1935-1936), seorang antropolog Henry Bijlmer. Henry berpartisipasi dalam ekspedisi dari Mimika ke pegunungan Guinea Baru. Pada tahun 1936, ia mengunjungi Asmat bagian utara dengan perahu dayung dari Pusat Misi MSC di Mimika, yang menjadikan karya misi pertama di wilayah Asmat.

Di Masa kepemimpinannya di Merauke, Uskup Tillemans dikenal sebagai tokoh pendidikan di sana. Termasuk sebuah sekolah Katolik di Paniai yang Ia namai Yayasan Pendidikan dan Persekolahan Katolik YPPK Tillemans milik Keuskupan Timika.

Pada tanggal 15 November 1966, Vikariat Apostolik Merauke ditingkatkan statusnya menjadi Keuskupan Agung dan ia diangkat menjadi Uskup Agung. Ia menjabat sampai mengundurkan diri pada tanggal 26 Juni 1972. Ia kemudian menjadi Uskup Penahbis Utama bagi Mgr. Jacobus Duivenvoorde, M.S.C. sebagai Uskup Agung Merauke pada 1 Oktober 1972.[*]
